Step 1: Complete pre-licensing education

Georgia requires appropriate pre-license education before you test. Courses are valid for one year: if you haven't passed the exam within a year of finishing, you'll have to retrain (Pearson VUE Georgia handbook). Certain designations (such as CLU or FLMI) can exempt you; see the handbook. One option is the $39 JustInsurance course. Make sure any course you choose is approved in Georgia.

Step 2: Reserve and pay for the exam

Book the Life Agent exam at Pearson VUE Georgia at least 24 hours before your desired date. Walk-ins aren't available (Pearson VUE Georgia handbook). Georgia isn't on Pearson VUE's current list of insurance programs offering OnVUE online proctoring (Pearson VUE), so plan on a test center; confirm current options with Pearson VUE.

Step 3: Take the exam

You'll get a pass/fail score report at the end. You need 70% correct to pass (Pearson VUE Georgia handbook). The number of questions isn't listed in the handbook; check the Life Agent content outline at Pearson VUE. Study tips: what's on the life insurance exam.

If you don't pass: you can rebook within one day, then wait 14 days to retest after your first and second attempts, and 60 days after your third or later attempts. There's no limit on attempts (Pearson VUE Georgia handbook). More in failed the life insurance exam?

Step 4: Apply online through Sircon

After passing, apply at sircon.com/georgia. New applicants also submit a notarized Citizenship Affidavit (GID-276-EN). If your application is incomplete you'll get one deficiency notice and 60 days to fix it, or you forfeit the application fee (Pearson VUE Georgia handbook).

Step 5: Complete fingerprints

Submit your license application first, then register with IdentoGO and take your approval email to a fingerprint site (Pearson VUE Georgia handbook; Georgia fingerprint procedure). You pay the fingerprinting cost; the fee is set by the vendor; check with IdentoGO or the Department.

Step 6: Get E&O and carrier appointments

After licensure, each insurer you represent must issue a certificate of authority (appointment) (Pearson VUE Georgia handbook). Carriers also require E&O insurance. See how to get appointed.

What TPG reimburses

Joining TPG is free, and agents are independent 1099 contractors. After your first three sales, TPG reimburses the $39 JustInsurance course, your $67 Georgia exam fee and your Georgia license fee. Fingerprinting, NIPR and appointment fees aren't reimbursed, and sales aren't guaranteed.
